- When you are done with your list, think about the inferences and conclusions you'd make out of the composite of these details.

- Examine and critique a theory you found in your research - Cite the source
- Use one other piece of research to refute or add credence to the theory you found. - Cite the source

- Include your Reader Response lens: where/how your personal experience bumps up against the lyrics on your first read.

HEXTER ONE: MANY VOICES- IDENTITY AND SELF
Focus on variations of voice that writers and speakers use within a cultural context to reveal identity through conformity or deviation from the norm. Understanding the idea that time and place can shift voice without betraying an authentic sense of self. Exploration of personality, career and professional self.

HEXTER TWO: STRANGER IN THE VILLAGE
Focus on two literary techniques: Stranger in the Village and Archetypal Journey- Understand how authors use these motifs to either promote the values of a time/culture, or use culture clash to suggest change. Students will both learn origins of traditional American cultural frameworks, but also learn to see “outside the box” and appreciate values of other cultures. In a value clash, who adjusts? How? How can I train my eyes to see what’s been there, but that I haven’t seen before?
